Weekly News

From

Mrs. Ericson and Mr. Ledwein

We enjoyed a presentation on Friday by the International Wolf Center. We learned about the wolf population in Minnesota. This fit wonderfully with our science unit that’s focused on adaptations and changes in ecosystems. Ask your child what they learned about wolves!

Please see the information below from Mrs. Prchal regarding the Elementary Science Fair:

Who: Elementary Science Fair Scientists & Engineers in Grades 3-6
What: New Prague Elementary Science and Engineering Fair!
When: Saturday, March 3 New Prague Middle School Commons
How: This is a fun event that includes displaying and judging your projects, as well as fun and engaging science activities for the whole family! A comprehensive packet of information will be available on-line on the Community Education website and at all three Elementary schools. This packet will take students through the complete process of the project by using the scientific method or the engineering process from start to finish! Purple ribbon winners who advance from this fair will have the opportunity to represent out schools at the regional fair in Mankato on Sat, April 28.
Getting Started: We have great staff and successful past participants (who have gone on to compete at state and internationals) that are eager to help you!
Kick-Off: Tuesday, Jan 9 6:30-7:45pm Falcon Ridge Multi-Purpose Gym
Our KICK-OFF event will be meaningful and full of great information to get you started. Display boards can be purchased $5, packets picked up and questions answered! T-shirts will also be available for $9 if interested! Packets will be available December 8th in each school office for those who would like to begin before Winter Break.
Help Sessions: Each elementary school will host a science fair help session that any student is welcome to attend. Feel free to attend a different school’s session if the dates don’t work for you! A teacher and volunteers will be on hand to help guide the children with project selection, researching, or just pulling it all together. Please send a note with your child to school for permission to stay after and plan to pick up your child at the main door of the school afterward.
Raven Stream: January 23rd & February 6th - Mrs. Ilkka 4-5pm
Falcon Ridge: January 18th & February 13th - Mrs. Prchal 4-5pm
Eagle View: January 25th & February 20th - Ms. Ringsred 4-5pm
All help sessions will be held in the respective building’s computer lab. Bring science experiment, notebook, packet and pencil.
We can't wait to see what students come up with! Feel free to email me directly (jprchal@isd721.org) with questions or concerns. This is made possible by New Prague Community Education and there will be sign up information at the kickoff event and in offices after that. There is no cost to participate!
