Mrs. Ericson and Mr. Ledwein

We had a great time on Thursday!  The Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders came to help kick-off our reading challenge.   Each student (4th & 5th) is challenged to read 40 books this year!  The challenge begins today and ends in May.  A “book” is considered 100 pages.  The NP Education Foundation also presented our school with the “Most Brain Powerful School” banner for the third year in a row!  We earned this honor by having the most participants in the Brain Power Walk / Run in September.

We are working on a surprise project.  The cost of the project is $7 per project.  Students may complete more than one project.  Please send $7 in cash for each project your child would like to complete.  No checks, please.  This is an optional for all students.

On Friday, October 27th, all district 5th graders will be taking a field trip to NPHS Auditorium to see the Dallas Brass perform!  Students will be departing Raven Stream at 11am, and arriving back at approximately 12:50pm for lunch and recess at school. Here is a little more information about the Dallas Brass:

Since its founding in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles.  The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges.  The Dallas Brass repertoire includes classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music.

For more information, videos, and music recordings of the Dallas Brass, please check out their website: http://dallasbrass.com/

We will once again follow the 5th grade tradition of dressing in 50s apparel on October 31st.  Students should wear their 50s clothing to school (no changing during the day).  No other costumes are allowed for 5th graders.  This is optional for all students.  The Harvest Day parade will be at 2:00 p.m.
