"Play Hard, Play Fair, and Be Safe"

Welcome to Raven Stream Physical Education!

Welcome to Raven Stream Physical Education! We are very excited about the 2017-2018 school year. Each and every student will have the opportunity to gain a solid background in a variety of activities, in both areas of skill development and content knowledge. As always, we will be stressing the importance of sportsmanship, respect and participation. Raven Stream is committed to improving the health of all Raven Stream students, while increasing their opportunities for physical activity.

THIS WEEK:

Kindergarten - The students are beginning to learn about rolling and bowling. They will start class by playing a warm-up game of Fire and Ice. This is a tag game that will give them a good cardio workout and help them work on chasing and fleeing. After the students will be taught the proper way to roll a ball. They will use those skills to play a game called Ball Frenzy. In Ball Frenzy, they will be working as a team to keep all of the gator ball moving by rolling them.

1st grade - The students are beginning to learn about rolling and bowling. They will start class by playing a warm-up game of Fire and Ice. This is a tag game that will give them a good cardio workout and help them work on chasing and fleeing. After the game the students will be taught the proper way to roll a ball. They will work with a partner to roll the ball back and forth at different speeds. When they are finished with that, they will use those skills to play a game called Snowman Repair Shop. Each player will have a bowling pin (snowman) that they are trying to protect. If their snowman gets knocked over, then they must go to the repair shop to do an exercise that will allow them back into the game. There are many gator ball (snowballs) in the game that the players use to roll and try to knock down other players snowmen.

Our 2nd-5th grade students are starting a bowling unit. The students will start class with an instant activity of Fire and Ice. The students will read the directions of the game and start playing. This tag game is a good cardio workout and it helps them work on chasing, fleeing and changing speeds. When they are done with this warm-up game, they will learn the rules and mechanics of bowling. The students will be divided up into 10 small groups and they will rotate between, bowler, pin setter and ball stopper.
