About the Teacher

Welcome to 5th grade!

We are prepared to take an exciting journey as we get ready for 5th grade and beyond.  Believe it or not, Middle school is not that far away!!

This fall will start my 16th year of teaching. Wow! This is my eighth year at Raven Stream, as I have taught the previous years in Chaska,  Minnesota.  However I am not new to New Prague.  I have lived here for the last 14 years with my husband and children. Erin is a 7th grader, Carly is a 6th grader, and Isaac is in Kindergarten.

I received my elementary education and special education teaching license from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  I then went on to receive my Master's of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Mary's University of Minnesota. I have also completed the program for my K-12 Principal's licensure as well.  As you can see, I love being a student myself!!

I have a passion for learning and try to allow my students to find his or her excitement for learning as well.  I will be teaching math, spelling and social studies to my homeroom students as well as those in Mrs. Ilkka's homeroom. My overall goal is to teach students to expand on their basic concepts and skills of mathematics, and to provide a mathematical background for all students that is appropriate to their needs while encouraging students to think outside the box and become 21st century learners.

In social studies invite the students to join me as we travel back in time from early America up to the 1800's.  We role play, dress up in costumes and try to bring history to life! Yes...the rumors are true...I do show up to class on occasion dressed up as a famous figure from history and yes we do have a castle in our room for part of the year (Where else would King George III of England live?) Hopefully your child will leave 5th grade with a newfound excitement for history!

Within my classroom, students will be accepted, appreciated, nurtured, and challenged according to their individual needs.  A partnership between school, parents and students is a must! I will be sending home a "Week at a Glance" update through email so you are always aware of what we are doing in class for the following week.   I'm looking forward to an exciting year in 5th grade! Together we can make this year successful for your son or daughter! Please contact me with questions or concerns!
