Pennies For Polio

Pennies for Polio

It takes $.60 to vaccinate a child for polio. During the week of October 9, over 2,800 New Prague Area Elementary and Middle School students worked together to collect a total of $2,686.90 to take part in a “Pennies for Polio” collection to support the eradication of polio throughout the world. Tuesday, October 24th was the 5th annual World Polio Day, co-hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, who tripled all donations received. A total of $10,777.60 went to put an end to polio throughout the world thanks to the work of our New Prague Area students, the New Prague Rotary, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The New Prague Rotary initiated the partnership with the school district to support this cause.

One mission of Rotary is to eliminate polio from the world along with making a positive, lasting change in the community and abroad. The collaboration between the New Prague Area Schools and the New Prague Rotary made a huge impact across the globe. This donation helped vaccinate over 17,962 people in the world.
