Odds and Ends:

My long term substitute is officially hired. Her name is Ms. Schmitz. She will come meet the class and work with me for a day before I leave! She was a first grade long term substitute earlier this year at Eagle View and student taught at Raven Stream Elementary in New Prague last year in a Kindergarten class.

Please sign up for conferences if you have not done so yet. Here is the link:

Happy MEA Break! I put some extra sight word sheets and a coloring sheet in their folders. This is not assigned homework, but feel free to work on some of those over the break.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week. We will be talking about ways to stay safe. We have some dress up days to go with our lessons each dayBackground: Red Ribbon Week is part of the grass root, non-profit organization: National Family Partnership. National Family Partnership or NFP is an organization that was started by concerned parents who believed they should have a voice in the drug prevention programs in their schools in the 1980's

Monday Dress up:  School colors - Red & Black

Tuesday Dress up:  Red, White & Blue Day

Wednesday Dress up: Sport Teams

Thursday Dress up: Camo Day

Friday Dress up: PJ Day

We had our 'housing ceremony' this afternoon. Each student got assigned to a certain house color to be a part of. They learned their chant and met some new people.

* Please talk to your child about wearing their jackets outside for recess and the end of the day. I have a lot of students wanting to hide their jacket in their backpack instead of wearing it when I ask them to put it on. *

Fall Harvest Party-I have heard back from most of you who are interested in volunteering at the party. Please email me with any questions or concerns!

 Reading/Writing:

This week I introduced our writing journals. We talked about how writers never say, "I'm done!" Writers can add detail to their picture, add labels, add words, or re-read the words. I am excited to share some of their journal writing with you at conferences.

Next week sight words: we, as, & no

These are the sight words we have introduces so far: a, am, I, is, the, see, like, to, go, my, in, can, look, on, it, have, you, & at.

Math:

This week during math centers we worked on sorting shapes, naming 2D shapes, number sense, and counting to 20. Next week in math we will work on ways to make a number by adding two numbers together.
