 Assignment Notebooks
  • Each night your child will bring home their assignment notebook.  Please take the time to look over and discuss the items written in there.
  • Not only is it to be used as an assignment notebook, but it can also be a communication tool between home and school.  If you have any questions or comments, or it I have any, we can write them in the assignment notebook.  Please sign it when your child has completed the homework assignments.
  • I will check and stamp the planners each morning indicating that I have seen the notebook.

Other forms of communication:

  • Email is probably the best way to reach out to me.  I can be reached at lwiener@isd721.org.
  • You can also leave me a voicemail at 952-758-1569.  I will not answer my phone during school hours when I have students in my room as they are my top priority at the time.  You can also try between the hours of 8AM and 9AM or from 3:45-4:15 PM.
  • If you need to leave a message for your child, please call the office at 952-758-1500 as I may not check my voicemail until the very end of the day.

Homework Policy:

  • Homework in 3rd grade may vary between teachers.
  • My expectations is that students are reading 20-30 minutes each night.  They may have 1-2 math worksheets a week and would benefit from studying their weekly spelling words.  Occasionally there may be a social studies, health or science test to study for.
  • Students will be given time in school to finish most of their other work; however, this means that your child is using their time wisely in class. Off task behaviors or talkativeness can lead to having to finish "classwork" as "homework."
  • Since reading comprehension is the basis for success in all subject areas, I recommend reading at least 4 nights a week.  Many third graders will make the transition to being independent readers during the year, but they still benefit from reading aloud to you or having you read to them.
  • Students will have the opportunity to check out 2 books per week from the Media Center during specialists time.
