Weekly News and Announcements

Weekly News and Announcements for February 19th-23rd

Conference Sign Up:  On Friday, Feb. 9th, your child should have brought home the sign up sheet for conferences.  Thank you so much for all the families who have already signed up.  Spring Conferences are Thurs. March 1st (5-8), Thurs. March 8th (5-8) and Friday, March 9th (10-4).  If you did not see the sign up direction sheet, please ask your child for it.  Holding them responsible for bringing information home to you is an important part of gaining responsibility.  If your family has misplaced the form, you can call Candy Gareis in the office at 758-1502 and she can help get your scheduled for conferences.
WAX MUSEUM and SHOWCASE NIGHT: Monday, March 19th 6:15-7:15 is the big night for us!  Costumes are due on Monday, March 12th.  Students have been busy researching and learning about their individual.  We will spend time into next week researching as well and then we will start writing our "autobiography" speeches.

Superhero of the Week: Last week's superhero was Crystal. We thank her for helping our classroom run smoothly last week.  Our new superhero will be Adam.

I love to Read Month:  Olympic reading sheet (for those participating) is due on March 1st.

Dress up days for I love to Read Month:

Feb. 21st: "The Magical World of Reading!" Dress as your favorite Disney character or Book Character

Feb. 28th: "Reading exercises your Brain!" Wear your workout clothes!

Classroom Events at a Glance

Math:   We are working this week on converting decimals to fractions and then fractions back to decimals.  We will also work on ordering fractions from largest to smallest and smallest to largest.  Extra IXL practice and fact practice are great if your son or daughter is having difficulties with fractions.  The number one area that students struggle in, when working with fractions, is that they don't have a strong enough basic understanding of their multiplication facts.

Spelling:  Unit 20 worksheet was assigned on Friday for the Unit 20 practice.  The next test will be on Feb. 22nd. The words for Unit 20 all start with the "com" or "con". Examples of our words are comprehend, component, contribute, and concentrate.

Social Studies: We have finished our unit on Early Explorers. If students wish to do test corrections to increase their score, they are welcome to use notes, or other resources to make the corrections. We have briefly started our 13 Colonies unit.  Students will learn about how the 13 Colonies of the United States were formed and how the colonies were divided into 3 distinct regions: The New England, the Middle, and the Southern Colonies.  Students will learn about the social classes, the economic differences and the land differences between these three regions.

Reading & Science will be taught by Mrs. Ilkka.  Please see her webpage @ http://www.npaschools.org/users/cilkka and then click on Weekly Annoucements! for up-to-date classroom information for these subject areas.

Band and Choir: Next Full band and choir will be on Wednesday, January 17th, and Wednesday, January 24th.
