Book orders:  I will be sending home book orders for November and December in Friday Folders.  Books make amazing Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers and kids of all ages love new books!  If you want to order some books for Christmas and want it to be kept a secret, just email me and I will set them aside and make arrangements to get them to you without your child knowing!  Remember every book you order online gives us free books to add to the classroom library for all kids to enjoy!  Order at http://www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and use the code GRPZK to access our classroom site. I will be placing orders on December 1st. Thanks!

Classroom Week at a Glance

Math:   We have started Unit 4 in math.  We are covering economic standards that will meet the state requirements for both math and social studies.  We will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of spending and saving money, find simply interest rates and add and subtract money amounts.  We will also learn vocabulary like withdrawal, deposit, taxes, balance, savings, banking, credit, and debit.

Spelling: This week we will study Unit 10.  All the words are homophones  Some examples are: threw/through, course/coarse, tide/tied.  We will not have spelling the short week of Thanksgiving, but students will receive the worksheet and list of words on Wednesday.  It will be due the following Thursday, November 30th.

Social Studies: We will discuss the tribes of the Eastern Woodlands this week in Social studies.  Students will understand more about the Iroquois Confederacy and the resources they used to make their lives successful.  Our last tribe we will discuss is the Aztecs of Mexico.  Our end of the unit is quickly approaching and so a study guide will be coming home after Thanksgiving break.
