Dear New Prague Area families, students and staff

Dear New Prague Area families, students and staff,

Over the last two weeks, we have been shaken by the news of George Floyd’s death. We mourn this tragic loss of life, along with our state and nation. Here in Minnesota and across the country, people are hurting, angry and afraid. The pain, fear and distrust caused by oppression undermine the health and wellbeing of our community as a whole.

These incidents demonstrate the impact that racism has on our society. We often feel helpless and do not know what we can do. At New Prague Area Schools, we are continuing with cultural competency training for our teaching and support staff. Improving our collective understanding of race and culture is critical in pursuing our vision to prepare every student for lifelong success within a world-class learning environment.

We are committed to listening, learning, growing, and acting to realize a future in which every child has the opportunity to flourish unhindered by racism and racial injustice. Copied below are a list of resources for families on how best to start these conversations with their children and continue conversations in a positive learning framework.

Thank you for your support and continued partnership of New Prague Area Schools. We will continue to work collaboratively to build a stronger community that is inclusive of all and prepares every student for lifelong success within an environment that is safe and welcoming.

Sincerely,

Tim Dittberner
Superintendent
