Avoid "Diploma Mills"

Diploma mills, or degree mills, are fraudulent "colleges" that offer potential students degrees requiring little or no serious work.  These "colleges" are not legitimate or accredited.  Learn more about diploma mills at the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Minnesota State (State Universities, Community, Technical Colleges)

Minnesota's merged system includes all technical college, community colleges, and state universities.  Click here for campuses and programs.

Technical colleges are two-year colleges that teach specific knowledge and skills leading to specific careers.

Community colleges are two-year colleges that can get you started on a bachelor's degree (four-year degree).  You can take your first two years of college at a community college and then transfer to a four-year college or university to complete your degree.  Community colleges, like technical colleges, also offer career programs leading directly to a job.

State universities are four-year institutions offering courses and programs leading to bachelor's, master's, and advanced degrees

Transfer Planning

Transferology is a nation-wide network designed to help students answer the question "Will my courses transfer?" Students enter their coursework, exams, and/or military learning experiences, and then discover in a single click how many colleges in the Transferology network have matching courses that may be awarded when the student transfers. Transferology is supported through a collaboration of the Minnesota State System and the University of Minnesota.

Minnesota Transfer is the  official guide for seamless transfer through Minnesota Office of Higher Education Services.
