DISTRICT NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Facility Task Force
Over the past several months, a group of NPAS’ stakeholders have worked to better understand the school district’s long-term facility needs as part of the Facility Task Force. This group consisted of approximately 35 individuals representing all aspects of the school district - staff, families and community members.
The task force’s work was rooted in the school district’s strategic plan, more specifically, the strategic direction of evaluating and improving the district’s operational systems. The ultimate goal of the task force was to identify and prioritize the future needs of the NPAS’ facilities.
To accomplish this goal, task force members reviewed facility information, including the recently updated long-term facilities maintenance plan. The task force also toured buildings, received an overview of school funding and worked to prioritize the future needs of the district. “We are thankful for the active engagement of our task force members,” said Craig Most, Director of Operations. "The task force worked hard to study a lot of information over a short period of time and I believe their final recommendations were forward thinking and reflective of the values of our greater communities.”
“Overall, our facilities are in very good shape," said Brent Quast, parent and task force member. “This is due in large part due to past investments into our schools, as well as the diligent efforts of our staff in maintaining them.”
The task force identified multiple areas for facility enhancement with on-going, proactive maintenance and the need for potential safety and security upgrades as being their top priorities. The committee’s final report was shared at the March School Board Business meeting.
The NPAS School Board will now consider the committee’s recommendation, as well as potential next steps, over the next several months. If you are interested in learning more about the Facility Task Force’s work, it can be found on the New Prague Area Schools’ website: npaschools.org/facilities25
