DISTRICT NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
WELLNESS
As part of our ongoing commitment to promote student wellness, we encourage families who are sending lunches and snacks from home with their child to refrain from sending food and beverages with little or no nutritional value. Due to current state legislation, all students attending our schools may receive one free breakfast and one free lunch on days they attend school. In addition, secondary schools sell ala carte items. All food served through Nutrition Services meets federal nutrition and wellness guidelines.
In addition to promoting healthy food options available at school, all NPAS students in grades K-12 have access to physical education classes. Elementary students, in all grades, receive physical education instruction along with daily recess. Middle school students receive physical education throughout each middle school grade and high school students are required to take at least one semester of a physical education class to graduate from NPAS. Additionally, at the high school level, there are a number of elective courses within the physical education department that students may also take. PreK students also participate in daily gross motor activities led by their teacher.
There are also many out of school opportunities for students seeking physical activity opportunities through the New Prague Area Community Education! Check out offerings here.
