FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
Dear NPAS’ Staff,
I hope the past several weeks have been productive and that you have been able to develop the routines and procedures with students that will sustain us throughout the remainder of the school year. At our Back to School Celebration prior to the start of the school, I asked for you to emphasize Leading, Listening & Learning as collective themes throughout the 2024-25 school year, and I believe now is a good time to provide a little more context regarding each.
In order to achieve our collective commitment to our communities of being a premier school district that prepares all of our students for life’s opportunities, we must continue to lead even in times of scarcity and uncertainty. To accomplish this, we need leaders at all points in our organization. With this in mind, throughout this academic year, we will work to update our site-based leadership model at the site level and find ways to better align our district office with our sites from both academic and operational standpoints.
Last year, significant energy was put into developing a district-wide communication plan. The next phase of this work is to continue implementing the communication plan and work on listening to our stakeholders, even those who don’t always agree with our decisions or support our school system. We hope to accomplish this by hosting multiple stakeholder feedback sessions throughout the year.
Finally, I ask that you join me in a commitment to learning. Simply stated, when the adults are learning, so too will the children. My goal is to become proficient with the use of AI in my role, and I encourage you to find one area of focus where you will continue to learn and grow along with your students.
With Election Day approximately a month away, we thought it's important to provide clarity for staff about what is expected of all of us during the weeks to come. Please take time to review the “Election Staff Guidance” section that is found later on in the newsletter, and feel free to follow up with your supervisor if you have more specific questions after doing so.
It is hard to believe that our annual MEA Break is right around the corner. I hope the long weekend is filled with time for you to rest and reconnect after what has been a busy start to another academic year. Thank you for all that you do to make the New Prague Area Schools a special place for students to learn and adults to work/interact. Please remember that your hard work is appreciated and is indeed having a positive impact on our students.
Sincerely,
Andrew Vollmuth

Election Staff Guidance
With the election season upon us, we wanted to provide some guidance to all staff regarding the political activities of NPAS employees.
Staff need to be mindful of how they discuss politics and election-related issues with students. Staff should not express their personal opinions regarding political candidates or political issues. Staff may only provide factual information to students, like when the date of the election is and who the candidates are.
During personal time, outside of the duty day, employees and school board members may largely engage in the political activities of their choosing.
- Serve on political committees
- Put political signs on the vehicles they drive to school
- Display political and referendum-related lawn signs in their yard
- Donate their own money to support or oppose any school board candidate
- Participate in promotional phone calling campaigns or Get Out the Vote drives
- Write letters to the editor and blogs advocating passage or defeat of a referendum, candidate or ballot issue.
While on duty, staff members may not campaign on behalf of political candidates or distribute political materials. Employees may not utilize school district resources on behalf of a political campaign. Nor can employees enlist the services of students, either during school time or outside of school hours to work on any campaign.
