A Message From The Superintendent
Dear NPAS Families,
As we settle into the school year and the rhythms of fall, I want to take a few moments to remind you about an important decision facing our school community this November. On Tuesday, November 4, voters in the New Prague Area Schools district will be asked to consider an operating levy increase. If approved, this would provide about $2 million per year for 10 years, beginning with the 2026–27 school year, to help us maintain the programs, staff, and support services that are essential to our students' success.
This kind of funding supports our daily operations—things like classroom staffing, instructional materials, and student services. For a home valued at $400,000, the estimated tax increase would be approximately $20 per month. You can find full details, including a tax calculator and background information, on our Referendum 2025 page on the NPAS website: npaschools.org
Keep in mind your vote matters! In our last referendum in fall 2023, only 39% of eligible NPAS families voted. The measure was defeated by just 36 votes—a number so small, it underscores how critical every single vote is in a local election like this.
This time around, we’re aiming for more than 50% family participation. To help make that possible, early voting began on Friday, September 19 and will continue throughout our campaign. Whether you vote early or on Election Day, I encourage you to make a plan, talk with your family and neighbors, and ensure your voice is part of this important decision.
We all want what’s best for our students. One of the best ways we can support them is by staying informed and engaged. Please take time to learn about the referendum, ask questions, and share accurate information with others in your networks and local communities.
Before closing, I want to take a moment to recognize and thank the members of our School Board for their ongoing leadership and service as we celebrate school board members throughout the state. Join me in thanking - Dennis Havlicek, Chair; Kim Holden, Vice Chair; Dan Call, Clerk; Jean Schmidt, Director; Carrie Cuff, Director; Ann Christy, Director; and Karen Steinhoff, Director, for their on-going commitment to our students, staff, families and greater school district community.
Thank you for being a vital part of the NPAS community. We are stronger when we work together—and your enthusiastic involvement truly makes a difference. Go Trojan!
Sincerely,
Andrew Vollmuth
