Elementary Report Card

Our district is committed to providing a high-quality, challenging education. Recently, we have introduced a more rigorous reading and writing curriculum. To ensure our students and teachers have the time they need to adjust to these higher expectations, we have intentionally streamlined the reading and writing portion of the report card for this period. This adjustment allows everyone to focus on the depth of learning required by these new standards.

Below is a breakdown of what you will see on your child’s report card and how to interpret their progress:

Understanding Identified Learning Targets

Our teachers have carefully analyzed state and national standards to identify specific learning targets. These are the most essential skills and concepts your child needs to master in each subject area, including math, science, social studies, and the arts.,/p>

Think of these as the "must-have" building blocks for your child’s academic success.

The Proficiency Scale

We use standards-based grading to give you a clear picture of what your child knows and what they are still working on.

• The Goal: The expectation is for all students to reach a 3 (Meeting the Target) by the end of the school year. You’ll see that some subject areas have opportunities to demonstrate mastery beyond their current grade level, through evaluation of a 4 (Exceeding Target).
• A Journey of Growth: Because these rubrics measure end-of-year goals, it is perfectly normal for students to be at a 1 or 2 earlier in the year. Please refer to the provided rubric to see how your child is expected to grow and progress toward mastery over the coming months.

Behavior Expectations

In addition to academics, we use the same scale to report on classroom behaviors. These ratings are based on the specific environment and expectations set by your child’s individual teacher. Because these are unique to each classroom’s community, a formal district-wide rubric is not included for behavior.
